” Biturica : a reference in the Southern Medoc “

Article published in th newspaper Sud Ouest ,\r\nthe 3rd April\r\n\r\n” With its 40 000 Acres, the vineyard of the Medoc is more huge than the Alsace and New Zealand one.\r\nThat’s to say than in the middle of the 8 Appellations & thousands estates on 60 Kilometers, it’s good than the buyers got some reference points and that the new producers accede to the ” light ” to draw attention to themselves.\r\nThis is the logic of the creation of the Biturica’s club in 2001. ” The Bordeaux market place, which makes the essential of the estate’s sales, doesn’t like much the change…. We had to act to go beyond the historical classifications. By affinity, because our wines come from similar terroir and that we all produce AOC Haut-Médoc, we became partners with nine estates. ” , explains Jean-Pierre Marie, heading since 1996 the Château Cambon la Pelouse ( 162 acres ), a reference.\r\n\r\nTHE VALUE FOR MONEY\r\n\r\nIt’s besides in the premises of this estate of Macau, at two steps of a large traffic circle in the south of the Châteaux’s road, that took place the presentation of the vintage 2008 during the week. Behind the little table, its white tablecloth and its spittoon, the owners present their new product. They are even accompanied, this year, by 14 ” friendly estates ” , like the Château Charmail.\r\nDuring the tasting, the baby looks good : good material, supple tannins, and surely a good future. ” This winegrowers make good wines, the Medoc is moving ” , assures a North – American buyer. Biturica – name of the first grape variety growed in Gironde during the first century, cabernet sauvignon’s ancestor – so would embody a new wave from the southern peninsula.\r\nWe have to say that, in the Medoc, one of the vineyard the most hierarchical which can be, the places are hard to take up. With the classifications of 1855 ( around sixty estates ), of the crus bourgeois – with a new recognition coming to supplant the 2003’s classification forfeited – & of the crus artisans ( respectively 250 & 40 estates ), some official references ever exist.\r\n” The value for money is our asset. We prove , like some others, that the good medocs are not inaccessible ” argue Martine Cazeneuve, who understood well the interest of the ” winegrower’s club ” since she makes also part of the Médocaine ( with châteaux Loudenne, du Taillan & La Tour de Bessan ). So, it’s not surprising that in the Libournais, where the influence of the classification ( there is only one ) is less important, the associations of this kind be fewer than in the Médoc.\r\n\r\nBETWEEN 12 & 18 EUROS\r\n\r\n” On the left bank, our wines are situated between the finesse of the Pessac-Léognan and the strenght of the Northern Médoc “, says Jean-Pierre Marie. ” With some prices of the wine between 12 & 18 euros TTC, we are in the centre of a market segment in progress. Above 20 euros, it’s another world “, he adds.\r\nAnd make Biturica go beyond few tastings each year to mutualise the means of communication ? ” Purchasing of corks, bottles … ? Any grooped fairs ? After though, that didn’t lead to. Each of us has his own strategies, and we are also competing.”\r\nWritter : César Compadre.
