Weather patterns were more variable than in 2015, but still featured all the characteristics of a great vintage.
The end of the summer – September to October – left its mark on the vintage with outstanding weather and a significant difference of 20°C between daytime and night-time temperatures, as well as ‘compassionate’ rainfall.
Once the harvest was in, the verdict was as follows: the Merlot is silky and rich, while the Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot are very promising. The latter contributes a new dimension to our wine. It is a Medoc grape variety and is used as the highest proportion in our blend. It is a result of decisions taken when the vineyard was re-organised, when the Marie family first arrived on the estate in 1996.
Will 2016 be a serious challenger of 2015 in terms of quality?
The wine needs to be given time as it ages in French oak barrels stacked in the property’s new barrel cellar, spending its youth in conditions produced by the latest technological improvements.
