In 22 years, I have never experienced such a carefree harvest!
Let’s forget the rainy winter and spring, forget the storms and hail, which we are so thankful for being spared from, forget the mildew that was hard to control and just remember the following:
– A summer that added up to be the third hottest after 1900 and 2003,
but with no absolute heatwave during the period
– Cool nights that filled the grapes with wonderful aromas
– Very little rainfall – only 39 millimetres in August and September
So,
how did we pass the time during this 20-day harvest? Just tasting the grapes on each plot and picking them when they were optimally ripe;
not too early and not too late! I don’t need a crystal ball to say that the 2018 vintage will be superb.
The last day of the harvest was 10th October 2018.
